MMmmmm Beeeeerrrr

Today is the Oregon Brewers Festival and I am about 15 minutes away from taking the rest of the afternoon off work and heading down to Portland's waterfront to taste some of the over 70 different microbrews available this year. This 3 day festival can attract around 50,000 beer tasters but I plan on getting there early and leaving before the big crowd gets there!

Friday afternoons are good for folks like me who appreciate a short line and lots of stretching room but get there around 7 tonight and it'll be like a gigantic frat party.

On that note:
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
(the sound of people woo-ing from one tent to another, like a big woo-wave)

I'm outta here!!!

I can't wait to start riding again!!!!

The day after my birthday, Davey and I took a jaunt over to hood river to watch the 3dm/Seismic West Coast Championships . We have never even been to many skateboard events, much less a championship race. It was SO cool and when we left, I daydreamed all the way back to the Couve about speeding through cones wearing confidence-building knee pads and puffy hip and bootey protectors.

For most of the time, we stayed near the finish line so we could watch the most preferred stopping method. After the finish line, the riders only had a short steep hill to come to a complete stop. There was a bike trail that cut up to the right but because you could not see if the coast was clear, most people opted to foot brake, (almost like Fred Flinstone in his wood and rock wheeled car). You could almost smell the burning rubber at times. Others slid to a stop but I’ll practice a bit more before I try that.

Anyway, as we enjoyed watching the racers come in, a lady in one of the red shirts had finished her run and was standing, watching other finishers. As she watched and re-hydrated, I wanted to ask about her full-faced helmet, and how one gets into this and where to go, what to do…everything. So…I walked across the road and started probing. She had some heavy duty gear which made me think that maybe I DON’T look like such a dork as I ride down the hills of northwest in my pro-tek helmet.

Her name was Judi and she was really nice and had lots of information about how to start getting into the actual “slalom” type riding. Right now, Davey and I just cruise down hills and my only goal is to keep from hitting cars or dislocating my shoulder. She gave us some good hints. She suggested to start on a flat long surface, such as a parking lot. Set out some cones and just start riding to get the feel of the movement. Their moves are smooth and fast! I explained I couldn’t do any riding at the moment and showed her my recent knee scars. She was SO cool and said there weren’t many female riders so it’s good to see people like me wanting to get into it.

Our conversation was cut short by her saying “yeah, there’s some lady over there taking pictures of us” and I look over to see my Mom and her friend, Jim. They were standing there grinning ear to ear…my mom with her camera! We told them the day before of our plans but I never thought they’d come all they way over to watch! It was such a nice surprise and I was happy as we chatted about their adventures for the day. Lots of sightseeing and picture taking!

After I got home the next day from work, Davey told me to look at this. I coulda been knocked over with a feather when I read about this person I just met, Judi Oyama . How lucky was I to get to watch her race in? What a good birthday!

And yes, I KNOW this picture is anything but flattering! You should have seen how much I had to crop my butt, and it still looks hooge..hee hee... but at least it's not that bad pic of Davey!

we're all food on a plate

I have worms in my ears! I am not alone....I know that.....dear siblings...ahem. And now in poor taste, I hum “when grandfather dies” by Stephen Lynch

Yesterday, I was SO happy to have my favorite James come in to the office with her little post-bob...now, the Little Guy. A small group of us escaped for lunch and had a fabulous time catching up as we haven’t seen her since she was pre-mama waddling awkwardly around the building.

Ok, so to get to the point of this post…months ago, on one of our lunch escapes, we were chatting about music and who had what on their i-pods. She had mentioned Modest Mouse and although I had heard that super cool name enough to know I should really check them out, I had never heard them before. So it took me awhile to jump on board and purchase the latest Modest Mouse cd but now that I have it, I’m quite pleased with this “indie…somethingerruther form of music.

Last weekend, Davey and I were playing downtown and of course I had the modest mouse cd in the jeep and Davey started singing “we’re all food on a plate” to the tune of “float on” and I laughed hysterically as he looked at me with that dumb-a** look of “what, that’s not what they’re singing?”

So guess what tune kept coming out of my mouth all day? And with what lyrics?
You betchya…"food on"!

What’s the deal with having a song stuck in your head? It’s often referred to as “earworm”. You can read about it here.

On that note…(hahahah funny pun), I’m going to go out and buy some cinnamon sticks.

no sun but we got sand!!!

It rained on my birthday but that didn't stop people from playing in the sand! Friday was the beginning of Yoshida's sand in the city at Portland's pioneer courthouse square and I was lucky to get an up close view! Posted by Picasa

slow rogue-ing

Here is my poor rogue, still in process. I was not 100% when I did much of the cabling so it's quite messied up in places but hey...it'll be a nice and soft sweater I can say I made when it's done! I have been told recently to embrace my mistakes so I think this will be a good place to start. Posted by Picasa

fireworks

This is pretty much what my dog looked like during the last week with all the M-80's, bottle rockets and other loud pseudo-illegal fireworks going off in the neighborhood.
This photo was actually taken last fall and if you look closely, you can see there's a little twirling helicopter from one of the near-by trees but gosh darn if he doesn't look psycho in this picture.  Posted by Picasa

3 eyed boobie monster

A lovely co-worker used to bring her 2 kids to work and then walk them to school. The 1st grade boy made me a picture. I guess it could be me in action at work...but with multiple boobies, I can only hope I'm wrong! Of course, I have three eyeballs....duh!  Posted by Picasa
